Paperless boarding: OCR and signed QR codes in maritime transport
Read a document in seconds, issue a secure boarding pass and validate it offline. This is how Embarca works.

On many passenger shipping routes, boarding is still surprisingly manual: details copied by hand at the ticket office, paper lists and queues at the gangway. On top of that, regulations require each passenger’s details to be recorded before departure.
Automatic document reading
Embarca reads the MRZ on the ID card or passport using optical character recognition and automatically fills in the mandatory fields. The ticket office agent simply reviews and confirms, cutting issuing time and transcription errors.
Signed QR codes and offline validation
Every boarding pass includes a cryptographically signed QR code that contains no personal data. The tablet at the gangway can verify it even without signal, which is common on quaysides and in boarding areas.
- No document images or biometric data stored
- Validation in milliseconds, offline too
- Official passenger list generated on departure
A voice-enabled assistant
In addition, an AI assistant answers questions about timetables, fares and services in several languages using real data from the system, and lets passengers start a provisional booking. Fewer repetitive calls for staff and a better experience for passengers.
